If Writing taught me anything, it was everything
From day 1, to this day, this class has things that I can and have applied to real life situations this semester.
Who Am I?

The first assignment for the class was a piece about ourselves. Honestly, the piece wasn't my favorite piece and one thing is because I don't often like to talk about myself or where I am from because I don't really find it interesting. But the assignment forced me to look at myself and express who I am. The assignment gave us an opportunity to explain who we are to each other and at the same time realize our identity.
I grew up trying to "Americanize" because I was born in America and I wanted to avoid Asian-stereotypes. But when I wrote the piece for our first assignment I realized I needed to express where my culture really came from.
This assignment applied to me this semester because throughout the course, I was chartering an Asian-Interest fraternity. In the fraternity, I learned that I shouldn't shy away from my own ethnic background and I realized, Asian culture is beautiful. In the fraternity, we are taught to not just be a cluster of minorities coming together, but leaders in our minority status.
The biggest application to this assignment was when my charter fraternity had our Probate Reveal, and individually we had to publicly express who we were to a large audience. I took a lot of pride in telling them who I am.

Rhetorical Analysis

The Rhetorical Analysis assignment was a lot of fun for me just because the topic I chose was something I really liked. Regardless of that, the topic on rhetorical analysis is an important one that my peers and I should always consider in the future.
My topic on Captain America gave me an insight on why I liked him so much. His target audience was comparable to me, in which he portrayed leadership, selflessness and pride. The way he was created back then was also a form propaganda to boost morale of people in WWII.
This semester, I kept up, a lot with the 2016 presidential election. I found the application of rhetorical analysis to be important for keeping up with the election because, our society gets most of our information on politics through corporate media who have their own self-interest and political leanings, and also have private incentives to interpret information in favor of a certain direction. With situations like these, rhetorical analysis keeps us from becoming sheeps. If we allow others, who have their own personal-interests, to give us information and have us believe them, then we aren't thinking freely. I think it's important that, when given information, we look at the author and see what their purpose was in telling us the information before, personally legitimizing it.
This election season, I watch people, who vote different ways fail to look at certain situations and they fall victim to persuasion of a wrong cause. We've adopted a black and white driven political system where we believe only two options exists, left or right, both with interests only on their side, with no existence of a grey area. I call this system, Bullshit.

Academic Inquiry

The Academic Inquiry piece was very long. It was probably the most professional form of writing I've ever done in my life. Despite the difficulty of the academic piece, I was very grateful that I got the chance to do it. When first looking at examples of academic pieces, I was intimidated and thought I'd never get through this assignment but luckily, this class is awesome, so I did. The process was step-by-step and at a fair pace. We focused on small pieces before looking at the overall foundation that we strived for. When finishing those small pieces, we were surprised to have them all come together to make the final product.
This semester, I worked 40+ hours, operated a chartering Fraternity and school, I thought I wouldn't be able to handle it all. Yes, it was difficult. Damn, it was. But, like the academic inquiry piece, I focused on each of them, one at a time. I didn't multitask, I stayed completely attentative to what I was doing. Everything else, could wait later. When I was at work, I was fully focused on satisfying our guests and doing everything I can to make sure the experience at my workplace was the best experience any customer could have. In school, I was a student, I talked about English in English class, talked about Statistics in Statistics, I'll some times slip in a PF Changs reference just to mess with people. In my late nights, I invested those times with my fraternity, losing sleep but establishing philanthropy events, fundraisers and bonding with great people.
Like the step-by-step process of the academic inquiry piece, the end result came out, satisfactory. I've become the youngest expeditor in the history of PF Changs, with a pathway to management and a license in training. My grades are pretty solid, I think. I hope so. My fraternity finally chartered and had respected people across the country come visit us.
In the end, it wasn't the size that mattered, it was the performance.

Digital Writing
It was hard to understand Digital Writing, but throughout the process, I got a gist of what it is. It may be the most prevalent form of writing and people won't even realize they're doing it. Throughout this semester and since it came out, I've done a lot of digital writing through Snapchat
